You don't have to want to be here

Willing is enough.

Most people who come in after a court or probation officer has directed them to counselling are some mix of resentful, embarrassed and numb. That's an honest starting point, not a problem. Some of the biggest changes I've seen started exactly there: with someone who had no real choice about coming, and slowly found that the process was genuine and that someone in the room believed they were capable of more.

I've worked with referrals involving probation, ICBC, MCFD and family courts, and facilitated groups on emotions and substance use. I've supported people dealing with relationship violence, addictions, parenting requirements and workplace conduct, so I understand what these requirements involve.

What's included

The Restore Program

  • Confidentiality briefing: the first 10 minutes explain exactly what's shared and what isn't
  • Planned around your conditions: we go through your court order or referral together and build the program around it
  • Midpoint progress summary for programs of 8 sessions or more
  • Letter of Participation and Certificate of Completion
  • Nothing shared without you knowing: clear updates to your referring body, only with your written consent
  • Support after you finish: options for continued counselling, if you want it
  • Praxis resource booklet to keep

Areas: anger, substance use, family conflict, parenting and workplace conduct. Only the court, probation or MCFD can decide whether a condition has been met, so bring your paperwork and we'll check the fit together.

Where Restore fits

Additional or earlier support, not a replacement.

Some BC programs are mandated and run by the province. Restore doesn't replace them:

  • Responsible Driver Program for impaired driving, through RoadSafetyBC
  • Relationship Violence Prevention program through BC Corrections, named in many family violence probation orders

Restore is often most useful before a plea or sentencing, while waiting for a provincial program, and for family court and MCFD matters.

Common questions

Before you book

Will you report to my probation officer?

Only what your referral requires and what you've agreed to in writing, usually attendance and participation. We go through it all in your first 10 minutes.

What should I bring to the free consultation?

Nothing is required. If you have your court order, probation conditions or referral letter, it helps us check whether Restore fits what's been asked of you.

I have a deadline. Can we fit it in?

Usually, yes. Tell us your deadline on the free consultation and we'll plan sessions around it.

Does Restore replace the Responsible Driver Program or the Relationship Violence Prevention program?

No. Some BC programs are mandated and run by the province: the Responsible Driver Program for impaired driving (through RoadSafetyBC), and the Relationship Violence Prevention program through BC Corrections for many family violence probation orders. Restore doesn't replace those. It works as additional or earlier support: before a plea or sentencing, while you wait for a provincial program, or for family court and MCFD matters.

Will completing Restore satisfy my condition?

Restore is designed to meet court, probation and MCFD counselling requirements, but only the court, your probation officer or MCFD can decide whether a condition has been met. Bring your order or referral letter and we'll check the fit before you start.
