What anxiety is
Your alarm system, working overtime.
Anxiety is your body's way of keeping you safe. The trouble starts when the alarm goes off too often, too loudly, or when there's no real danger in front of you. You might know the worry doesn't make sense, and still not be able to switch it off.
That's not a failure of willpower. It's a nervous system that has learned to stay on guard, and it can learn something new.
What it can look like
You might notice
- Worry that loops, especially at night
- A tight chest, racing heart or upset stomach
- Panic attacks, or fear of having one
- Avoiding people, places or tasks that feel like too much
- Snapping at people you love, not because you don't care, but because you have nothing left
- Restlessness and trouble concentrating
- Needing everything to be "just right" before you can relax
- Health, money, work or family worries that never settle
How I help
Calm the body, then work on the source.
First, relief. Practical tools to settle your body when anxiety spikes: breathing, grounding and ways to step out of the worry loop.
Then, understanding. We look at what sets the alarm off and what keeps it going, in your daily life and your relationships.
Then, change at the root. When anxiety is tied to past experiences, EMDR can help your brain process them. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you work with the feelings underneath instead of fighting them.
Throughout, you set the pace.

Start with the anxiety self-check.
The GAD-7 is the same short questionnaire many counsellors and doctors use. It can't diagnose you, but it gives you a clear starting point, and a free guide with three things to try this week.

Common questions
About anxiety counselling
Is my anxiety bad enough for counselling?
If it's getting in the way of sleep, work, school or relationships, or you're simply tired of feeling this way, that's reason enough. You don't need to wait until it's severe. The free anxiety self-check (GAD-7) can give you a starting point.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Counsellors don't prescribe medication. Many people manage anxiety without it, and others use both. If you're taking medication or thinking about it, I'm happy to work alongside your family doctor.
Can anxiety come from past experiences?
Often, yes. Anxiety that feels bigger than the situation is sometimes linked to earlier experiences the body still remembers. When that's the case, EMDR can work on the source, not just the symptoms.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what's driving the anxiety and what you'd like to change. Some people want a few sessions of practical tools; others want to work on deeper patterns. We'll agree on a plan together and review it as we go.
Is anxiety counselling covered by my insurance?
Many extended health plans cover a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and I can bill most of them directly. Check your plan for RCC or counsellor coverage, or ask on your free consultation.
